The publication deals with the progression of the Prague National Gallery during the Protectorate, which is like an organic continuation and development of the original "First Republic" project of the Central Museum of Art administered by the state. It also captures the significant, albeit controversial, work of director Josef Cibulka. It is supplemented by archival period materials, press articles and reproductions of war acquisitions.
