Hans Holbein starší Hohenburský oltář / Hans Holbein The Elder Hohenbur Altarpiece

Publikace představuje výsledky současného restaurátorského, technologického a uměleckohistorického průzkumu Hohenburských křídel Hanse Holbeina staršího, která patří k mistrovským dílům Národní galerie. Hans Holbein je namaloval tzv. grisajovou technikou – malba je provedena ve škále odstínů šedé barvy. S touto technikou se u Holbeina staršího jinak nesetkáváme, proto autoři publikace hledají důvody, které mistra vedly k užití tak náročného postupu. Rovněž objasňují dobový kontext vzniku tohoto ojedinělého díla, které Holbein se vší pravděpodobností vytvořil pro klášter Hora sv. Otýlie v Hohenburku (Dolní Alsasko), kde roku 1509 pobýval. This publication provides a broader context to the results of the restoration, technological and art historical research currently being conducted on Hans Holbein the Elder`s Hohenburg altarpiece wings,whitch belong amongst the National Gallery Prague`s masterpiece. Hans Holbein painted them in the so-called grisailletechnique (i.e.paintings executed entirely in grey shades) that is otherwise completely absent in his artistic output. The authors of the present publication therefore search for the reason that might have led the Master to use such a demanding technique. The also reveal the period context of the genesis of this truly unique artwork that Holbein most probably created for Monte St. Odile Abbey in Hohenburg (Lower Alsace), where he stayed in 1509.
