Kabinet doktora Fausta: Goetheho drama v ilustraci 19. století (Grafické kabinety)

Drama Johanna Wolfganga von Goethe Faust patří k základům světové literatury a také jeho výtvarná pojednání tvoří významnou kapitolu dějin umění19. století. Ilustrace k Faustovi vytvářeli umělci slavní i dnes již pozapomenutí – Peter von Cornelius, Moritz Retzsch, Eugène Delacroix, Engelbert Seibertz či Gabriel von Max. Publikace mapuje tyto ilustrace uložené ve Sbírce grafiky a kresby Národní galerie v Praze a dokumentuje na nich proměny ilustračního stylu v průběhu 19. století.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's play Faust ranks among the key works of world literature, and its representation in the fine arts also constitutes an important chapter in the history of 19th-century art. Illustrations for Faust were created both by artists whose fame has endured to this day and by those who have fallen into oblivion – Peter von Cornelius, Moritz Retzsch, Eugène Delacroix, Engelbert Seibertz, Gabriel von Max. This publication maps these illustrations housed in the Collection of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery in Prague, and by means of these artworks documents the transformations in the style of illustration during the course of the 19th century.
