Lukáš Hofmann: Sospiri – Three views of one artwork

The second volume of the Three Views of One Work series brings together a number of essays by renowned theorists written in response to Lukáš Hofmann's work Sospiri, a recording of his performance at the Trade Fair Palace in 2018, created as his entry for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. The work was part of the Magnus Art collection, donated to the NGP by J&T Bank. Fiontán Moran of Tate Modern describes the development of performance art, from the original emphasis on authentic experience to the staged theatrical works of the recent years. Alice Koubová concentrates on specific motifs in Hofmann's performance, searching in them for ways to overcome the current crisis of the society of singularities. Ivan Foletti examines false notions of the medieval period in today's popular culture and compares Hofmann's performance with the approach that shaped early Christian ritual practice.
